Dabbers at the ready: this Saturday afternoon, bingo is swapping the church hall hush for neon lights, a dancefloor and a DJ.
Boogie Bingo takes over Wood Street Social Club in Dennistoun, in Glasgow's East End, on 3 October. The afternoon includes music from DJ Pauly M, the chance to win cash prizes, and nibbles that come with every ticket. Organisers bill it as a day "where numbers meet neon, dabbers meet dancefloors".
It is also a fundraiser for PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid), the Glasgow charity that works with children, young people and families facing poverty.
A glow-up for a classic
According to the event listing, the afternoon runs from 2pm to 6pm, which leaves room for plenty of games and a fair few turns around the dancefloor in between. The event is for over-18s only and is sponsored by Howden.
Early bird tickets cost £10 and are limited to the first 75 sold. After that, the full price is £20. Nibbles are included at either price.
Where the money goes
PEEK describes itself as a Glasgow-based charity supporting children, young people and families who may be experiencing poverty, isolation and inequality. It says it has worked with communities across the city for more than 25 years.
On its website, the charity says it creates "safe, supportive spaces where people can connect, grow, and thrive". Its work is organised into four core programmes: Play, Create, Thrive and Wellbeing.
According to PEEK, those programmes use play and creativity to help children build life skills and confidence. They also support young people to develop skills for the future and work alongside families to strengthen relationships and build resilience.
The event listing says money raised on the day will go towards creating opportunities for children, young people and families facing poverty across Glasgow.
Get in on the act
Daytime parties are having a moment in Glasgow. What's On Glasgow's listings are full of afternoon discos and party-style bingo, and this one comes with a good cause attached.
